Aurangabad was once the capital of the Mughal Empire, under Emperor Aurangzeb, after it is named as Aurangabad. It was a Aurangzeb’s main base until his death in 1707, and he was buried in nearby Khuldabad. Apart from this Bibi ka Maqbara and few surviving building from the Mughal Period. Aurangabad is now an important industrial city.

BIBI KA MAQBARA
The most important surviving building from the Mughal period is the Bibi ka Maqbara of 1650-57. It has a nick name of “Poor Man’s Taj“. The Tomb of Rabia Durani, the Daughter-in-law of Mumtaz Mahal the woman for which the Taj Mahal was built. The Bibi ka Maqbara has four four tapering minarets but they are octagonal rather than circular. There is also a mosque on the west side of the Tomb.

DAULATABAD FORT
It is one of he the India’s most remarkable examples of medieval military architecture. Daulatabad was originally known as Devagiri or Deogiri, the hill of the gods. The Mughal’s took the fort in 1633 without a battle, having bribed a Nizam Shahis general with more than a million rupees to open its gates. It as later fought over by the Marathas and the forces of the Nizam of Hyderabad.

BHADRA MARUTI TEMPLE, KHULDABAD
Bhadra Maruti Temple, Khuldabad is a temple dedicated to the Hindu deity Hanuman, located at Khuldabad, near Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The temple is located four kilometers from the Ellora Caves. This temple is famous for wishes. The idol of hanuman is portrayed in a reclining or sleeping posture. It is one of the three places where hanuman is represneted in reclining or sleeping posture.

ELLORA CAVES
The Buddhist, Hindu and Jain Caves of Ellora which has a cut deep basalt cliff face 20km west to Aurangabad, are a stunningly originally collection of architectural masterpiece. There are total 33 Caves. Around 1km from Ellora Caves there is a Grishneshwar Temple which is known as a 1 of the joytiling of 11 joytiling. The shrine is dedicated to Shiva, and is a fine example of 18th century Hindu architecture.

AJANTA CAVES
This caves are spectacularly located on the side of a remote, forested hill, overlooking a horseshoe-shaped bend in the River Waghora. Inside the caves there are some remarkably well preserved paintings and carvings the most complete representation of the early Buddhist tradition to be found in India. The Ajanta caves are usually approached by road from Aurangabad which is 85kms.
Timings : Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 am to 05:30 pm
